Job Description
Providing critical care in a lower acuity ICU environment requires expertise, attentiveness, and the ability to respond to diverse patient needs. This position focuses on caring for patients with medical, surgical, stroke, COVID, behavioral health, and overdose conditions, supported by a skilled multidisciplinary team in a Level IV Trauma Center and Primary Stroke Center.
Responsibilities:
- Manage patient care in an 11-bed ICU with a 1:2-3 nurse-to-patient ratio, adjusting for acuity during day and night shifts.
- Monitor and interpret cardiac strips, manage ventilators, chest tubes, tracheostomies, and invasive lines.
- Perform proning procedures and utilize bedside and nursing station telemonitoring in the absence of dedicated tele tech.
- Collaborate closely with CNAs, respiratory therapists, hospitalists, resource nurses, and therapy staff.
- Document thoroughly using electronic charting systems like EPIC.
- Float as needed to cardiac and stepdown units according to unit manager directives.
Qualifications and Desired Experience:
- Registered Nurse with a minimum of 3 years ICU experience.
- Current certifications in BLS, ACLS, and NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS).
- Proficiency in interpreting EKG strips, managing advanced airway devices, line management, and proning patients.
- Comfortable working within a critical care team and adapting to varied patient types and acuity.
- Familiarity with EPIC charting, Alaris infusion pumps, and Pyxis medication systems.
Schedule and Work Environment:
- Weekend rotations every other weekend.
- On-call responsibilities vary based on unit needs.
- Holiday shifts scheduled per unit requirements.
- One-shift orientation to familiarize with unit flow.
- Parking available free for employees in designated areas.
- Scrub color is flexible, provided attire remains professional.
