Job Description
Take your nursing expertise to the next level in a diverse and fast-paced Intensive Care Unit environment. This contract position offers the unique opportunity to care for patients with complex conditions such as diabetic ketoacidosis, acute respiratory failure, myocardial infarctions, post-CABG, and those on ventilator support in a mixed cardiac and medical ICU setting.
Schedule/Hours:
- Multiple shifts available to accommodate your preferences
- Every other weekend required
- No on-call or floating responsibilities
Qualifications:
- Active RN license in Louisiana or current Compact state license
- BLS and ACLS certifications required from AHA
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing preferred
- At least one year of experience in critical care is desirable; new graduates will be considered
Role Responsibilities:
- Deliver care utilizing the nursing process, including thorough assessments, accurate diagnoses, comprehensive planning, interventions, and outcome evaluation for assigned patients
- Skillfully manage care for critically ill patients, demonstrating independent, competent clinical judgment and adaptability in the ICU setting
- Address the holistic needs of patients and families, including psychological, emotional, cultural, and social support
- Administer medications and treatments per protocol, monitoring side effects and evaluating therapeutic responses
- Maintain comprehensive and clear documentation of patient histories, symptoms, and care provided
- Educate patients, families, and caregivers, identifying both needs and available support resources
- Delegate tasks and make assignments thoughtfully to ensure optimal patient care
Professional Development:
- New staff attend a comprehensive orientation within the first 30 days
- Preceptorship with experienced personnel and thorough competency validation
- Ongoing annual competency assessments to support continued growth
