Job Description

Provide specialized nursing care in a high-acuity neurological stepdown unit, delivering exceptional patient outcomes through evidence-based practices and collaboration with interdisciplinary teams. Responsibilities:

  • Deliver competent, compassionate care to neurological and neurosurgical stepdown patients
  • Manage complex patient needs including continuous telemetry monitoring and advanced neuro assessments
  • Perform Q1 neurological checks, monitor and manage EVDs, lumbar and subdural drains, arterial lines, and inotropic drips such as cardene
  • Oversee patients with advanced neurological interventions including carotid endarterectomy, aneurysm coil/clipping, deep brain stimulator (DBS) insertion, and VP shunts
  • Respond promptly to seizure activity and other neurological emergencies
  • Serve in expanded roles such as charge nurse, preceptor, or committee member as required
  • Collaborate closely with interdisciplinary teams to ensure comprehensive, evidence-based patient care

Qualifications and Desired Experience:

  • Registered Nurse with a current New York State license
  • Minimum of 2 years nursing experience, including stepdown/PCU experience
  • BLS certification required; ACLS and NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification preferred
  • Proven experience in telemetry and managing high-acuity stroke and neurosurgery patients
  • Proficiency in specialized neuro monitoring and interventions such as EVD management and neurovascular procedures
