Provide specialized nursing care in a high-acuity neurological stepdown unit, delivering exceptional patient outcomes through evidence-based practices and collaboration with interdisciplinary teams. Responsibilities:
- Deliver competent, compassionate care to neurological and neurosurgical stepdown patients
- Manage complex patient needs including continuous telemetry monitoring and advanced neuro assessments
- Perform Q1 neurological checks, monitor and manage EVDs, lumbar and subdural drains, arterial lines, and inotropic drips such as cardene
- Oversee patients with advanced neurological interventions including carotid endarterectomy, aneurysm coil/clipping, deep brain stimulator (DBS) insertion, and VP shunts
- Respond promptly to seizure activity and other neurological emergencies
- Serve in expanded roles such as charge nurse, preceptor, or committee member as required
- Collaborate closely with interdisciplinary teams to ensure comprehensive, evidence-based patient care
Qualifications and Desired Experience:
- Registered Nurse with a current New York State license
- Minimum of 2 years nursing experience, including stepdown/PCU experience
- BLS certification required; ACLS and NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification preferred
- Proven experience in telemetry and managing high-acuity stroke and neurosurgery patients
- Proficiency in specialized neuro monitoring and interventions such as EVD management and neurovascular procedures
