Job Description
Provide specialized nursing care in a dynamic Stepdown Unit environment, focusing on patients with high acuity neurological and cardiovascular needs. This clinical role demands expertise in managing complex conditions including stroke, neurosurgery, and cardiac telemetry.
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver comprehensive patient care adhering to established clinical standards within the Stepdown Unit.
- Monitor and manage advanced neurological devices such as EVDs, lumbar and subdural drains, and VP shunts.
- Perform frequent neurological assessments including Q1 neuro checks and manage care involving aneurysm coils, clips, and Deep Brain Stimulator (DBS) insertions.
- Administer and regulate critical medications and drips, including Cardene and 3NS, while monitoring arterial lines.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams, potentially taking on charge nurse, preceptor, and committee roles.
- Maintain accurate patient records and participate in evidence-based practice and professional development initiatives.
Qualifications and Desired Experience:
- Valid RN license in New York State.
- Minimum of 2 years nursing experience with mandatory Stepdown/ Progressive Care Unit (PCU) experience.
- Proven skills in high-acuity stroke and neurosurgery patient care.
- Strong telemetry experience is essential.
- BLS certification required; ACLS and NIHSS certifications preferred.
- Familiarity with neurological assessments, arterial monitoring, and specific neurosurgical care procedures such as carotid endarterectomy and seizure management.
