Job Description
Providing expert care in a 14-bed ICU unit that serves adult medical patients, this role demands a registered nurse with a minimum of two years ICU experience. The patient population includes cases such as sepsis, DKA, strokes, respiratory and kidney failure, GI bleeds, and more. The nurse will work closely with a multidisciplinary team to manage critical care patients, many of whom require ventilators, tracheostomies, chest tubes, and vasoactive drips.
Responsibilities:
- Care for patients with complex medical conditions in a Medical ICU setting
- Manage critical drip maintenance, central lines, arterial lines, and wound care
- Perform PIV starts and maintain NG tubes
- Monitor cardiac rhythms and other patient vitals using EPIC and Phillips monitoring systems
- Collaborate with CNAs, charge nurses, hospitalists, intensivists, and respiratory therapists to deliver comprehensive care
- Float within ICU or Progressive Care Units as needed, following orientation to the unit
- Prioritize patient safety and adhere to hospital protocols, including remote triage procedures during night shifts
Qualifications or Desired Experience:
- Current RN license with at least 2 years of ICU experience
- Certifications required: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS
- Experience with EPIC electronic medical records system
- Skilled in managing ventilators, tracheostomies, chest tubes, central lines, and critical drips
- Ability to interpret cardiac rhythms and perform advanced nursing procedures like PIV starts and NG tube management
- Open to floating within ICU/PCU areas, as needed
Schedule/Hours:
- 14-hour shifts: 06:45 AM 07:15 PM or 06:45 PM 07:15 AM
- Weekend rotation of 6 weekends in a 6-week cycle (Friday, Saturday, or Sunday)
- Approximately 50% holiday coverage during contract
- On-call not required
- Orientation includes two unit shifts and a nurse educator-led onboarding
