An RN with ICU expertise is needed for a contract position within a 14-bed Medical ICU unit located in Indian Trail, NC. This role suits adult ICU nurses with at least two years of critical care experience, particularly in managing patients with sepsis, DKA, strokes, respiratory/kidney/liver failure, GI bleeds, and post-surgical care. Nurses experienced with critical equipment and procedures including ventilators, tracheostomies, chest tubes, central lines, and cardiac rhythm interpretation will excel in this setting. Familiarity with EPIC electronic medical records is required.

Responsibilities include providing high-quality care to medical ICU patients at ratios ranging from 1:2 to 1:3 depending on staffing. You will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including charge nurses, respiratory therapists, hospitalists, intensivists, and anesthesia services available 24/7. Night shifts feature remote triage support via in-room cameras and virtual critical care physicians. The unit benefits from a dedicated CNA who covers HUC duties overnight, with additional assistance from phlebotomy and PICC teams during the day. Floating within ICU or PCU areas may be required.

The position offers a six-week rotating schedule with shifts from 6:45 AM to 7:15 PM and 6:45 PM to 7:15 AM, including six weekend shifts per cycle and holiday coverage approximating 50%. Orientation includes a New Employee Onboarding and two shifts on the unit for hands-on training.

Key qualifications and certifications:

• Active RN license
• Minimum 2 years ICU experience
• BLS, ACLS, NIHSS certifications
• EPIC EMR proficiency
• Skills: ventilator care, trach and chest tube management, critical drip maintenance, central line and arterial line care, wound care, cardiac monitoring, PIV starts, NG tube management
