Job Description

A specialized opportunity for experienced ICU RNs skilled in Neurocritical care is available in Huntersville, NC, offering a dynamic travel assignment in a Level 1 Trauma Designated and Magnet-recognized teaching hospital. This 29-bed Neuro ICU provides care for complex neurological cases including ischemic and hemorrhagic strokes, subarachnoid hemorrhages, traumatic brain injuries, and spinal cord injuries.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide high-acuity nursing care with a typical 1:2 nurse-to-patient ratio, occasionally managing up to three patients with downgrade orders
  • Manage advanced neurological devices such as external ventricular drains (EVD) and intracranial pressure monitoring
  • Administer vasoactive drips, ventilator support, and tracheostomy care
  • Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team including intensivists, stroke response nurses, clinical educators, and rehabilitation therapists
  • Utilize Epic EMR proficiently for patient documentation
  • Participate in departmental floating to other adult critical care units as needed

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Minimum 2 years experience in Adult ICU, specifically Neuro ICU preferred
  • Completion of at least one 13-week travel nursing assignment is required; first-time travelers considered with prior ICU experience
  • Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications
  • Competency with Epic EMR system and ICU-specific equipment (Alaris IV pumps, Omnicell, Philips monitors)
  • Experience in managing CRRT, ventilators, central lines, and post-operative neurological patients

Schedule & Work Environment:

  • Night shifts: 6:45 PM to 7:15 AM, with a 6-week rotating schedule
  • Weekend rotation every other weekend (Fri/Sat/Sun), no on-call duty
  • Expected to work approximately 75% of holidays with manager approval for return-to-office
  • Orientation includes Neuro ICU and departmental training tailored to skill level
