Experienced ICU Registered Nurse opportunity in Gastonia, NC, specializing in Neuro Critical Care. This travel assignment offers an engaging environment at a 29-bed specialized ICU providing advanced care to adult patients with complex neurological conditions. Candidates bring a minimum of two years in adult ICU nursing and experience managing high-acuity patients.
Key Qualifications and Experience:
- Current RN license with at least 2 years Adult ICU experience
- Completed one prior 13-week travel assignment (no first-time travelers)
- Proficient with Epic EMR system
- Certified in BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS
- Skilled in ventilator management, intracranial pressure (ICP) monitoring, external ventricular drain (EVD) care, vasoactive drip titration, tracheostomy care, central line maintenance
- Experience with post-operative neuro patients, stroke management, TNK administration, and interventional radiology
- Ability to manage CRRT (if competent) is a plus
Responsibilities:
- Provide high-level nursing care for an average census of 29 patients with neuro-critical diagnoses including ischemic and hemorrhagic strokes, traumatic brain injuries, seizures, subarachnoid hemorrhage, spinal cord injuries, and post-surgical neuro care
- Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team including intensivists, nurse practitioners, clinical educators, stroke response nurses, respiratory therapists, and therapists to optimize patient outcomes
- Utilize Philips monitors, Alaris IV pumps, Omnicell medication dispensing, and unit-specific equipment such as Artic Sun and Vigilance monitors
- Maintain unit culture emphasizing teamwork and retention within a Level 1 Trauma Designated hospital
Schedule and Work Environment:
- Night shift: 6:45 PM to 7:15 AM, scheduled in six-week rotations
- Weekend rotation every other weekend covering Friday to Sunday
- No on-call responsibilities
- Approximately 75% holiday staffing expectation
- Uniform color: Navy Blue, with free parking provided
- Orientation includes two departmental days tailored to skill level
