Job Description

An exciting opportunity is available for an experienced Registered Nurse with ICU expertise to join a specialized step-down unit. This role offers the chance to work in a unique setting that combines cardiac, stroke, telemetry, and orthopedic care, providing diverse and engaging patient experiences.

Location:
Des Plaines, Illinois Nestled conveniently near major transport routes, this area offers a balance of suburban comfort with easy access to vibrant city amenities. Des Plaines is known for its welcoming community, local parks, shopping centers, and a variety of dining options.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide specialized nursing care to patients in a lower acuity ICU setting, including post-surgical orthopedic and spine patients.
  • Manage a patient load with a nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:2, ensuring attentive and professional care.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to monitor and support patients recovering from complex procedures.
  • Participate in orientation and pass required competency testing, including an advanced EKG test.
  • Potentially float to other floors as needed to support facility operations.
  • Work scheduled 12-hour night shifts with weekend rotations every other weekend and at least one holiday per year.

Desired Qualifications and Experience:

  • Current Illinois RN license.
  • Minimum of 2 years ICU experience, preferably with exposure to cardiac, stroke, telemetry, or step-down care.
  • Certifications required: CPR, ACLS, NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS).
  • Successful completion and submission of an advanced EKG test.
  • Ability to provide one professional reference within the last year.
  • Strong clinical judgment and ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment.

Schedule:

  • 12-hour night shifts.
  • Weekend coverage every other weekend.
  • Orientation sessions conducted on Mondays.
