Exciting opportunity for an experienced Emergency Department Registered Nurse in Harlingen, TX. This 22-bed ER unit provides care for a diverse and acute patient population with a dedicated team of 55 staff members working across day and night shifts. The unit emphasizes critical and trauma care including STEMI, stroke, and sepsis patient management, with a patient ratio of 4:1 and Meditech EMR system used for documentation.
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver skilled nursing care in a high-acuity Emergency Department setting
- Perform IV insertions, medication administration, EKGs, splinting, wound care, and moderate sedation for procedures
- Assist with intubation, CPR, rapid sequence intubation, and emergency code responses
- Manage care for trauma, stroke, STEMI, sepsis, and behavioral health patients
- Conduct triage assessment and prioritize based on Emergency Severity Index (ESI) guidelines
- Adhere to isolation, infection control protocols, and accurate documentation in a fast-paced environment
- Coordinate patient transport for advanced levels of care when necessary
Qualifications:
- Minimum 5 years recent Emergency Department nursing experience in a high-acuity environment
- Current BLS, ACLS, and PALS certifications; TNCC preferred
- Strong triage and critical thinking skills
- Trauma and cardiac alert experience including care of STEMI, stroke, and sepsis patients
- Experience with Meditech documentation system preferred
- Bilingual English/Spanish skills a plus, not required
Schedule & Work Environment:
- Contract position based in Harlingen, TX
- Expected to work 2 weekends per schedule; no on-call required
- Scrub color: Royal Blue
