A Pediatric Cardiac ICU Registered Nurse role is available in Concord, NC, offering a specialized contract opportunity within a Level 1 Pediatric Trauma Center and teaching hospital recognized for excellence in congenital cardiology. This 20-bed unit cares for critically ill patients ranging from newborns to 18 years old, focusing on high-acuity cases including post-operative congenital heart surgery, cardiac transplant care, and advanced support with devices such as ECMO, Impella, and Aquadex.
Qualifications & Desired Experience:
- Minimum 2 years of Pediatric Cardiac ICU experience in a comparable high-acuity setting
- Current BLS, PALS, and NIHSS certifications required
- Proven ability working with fresh open heart post-op patients and transplant cases
- Familiarity with ECMO, Impella, Aquadex, and other renal replacement therapies
- Proficient with EPIC EMR system
- Competency and willingness to float to PICU as requested
- First-time travelers are welcomed
Responsibilities:
- Deliver expert nursing care to critically ill pediatric cardiac patients
- Manage patient care ratios typically ranging from 1:1 to 2:1 based on acuity
- Coordinate with cardiologists and intensivists available 24/7 for comprehensive patient management
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams including respiratory therapy and IV/VAT specialists
- Engage in rotations every other weekend and a call schedule aligned with unit needs
- Participate in holiday coverage approximately 75% of the time
Schedule:
- 12-hour shifts: 6:45 AM to 6:45 PM or 6:45 PM to 6:45 AM
- Weekend rotation: alternating weekends, or fewer as needed
- Holiday and call duties apply
