A specialized opportunity is available for experienced Surgical Technologists skilled in Cardiac Operating Room procedures. This contract role is based in Penfield, NY, in a facility renowned for advanced adult cardiac care. The operating room handles complex cases including coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG), transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI), heart failure ventricular assist devices (VADs), extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO), artificial heart placements, and heart transplants.
Responsibilities:
- Prepare surgical instruments, equipment, and supplies with expert technical knowledge.
- Assist the surgical team from the scrub position during operations.
- Maintain sterile technique, ensure safe handling of sharps, and perform surgical counts as per hospital policy.
- Facilitate efficient room turnover between cases to maintain workflow.
- Handle pharmacologic agents and solutions under RN supervision.
- Collaborate closely with a multidisciplinary team providing care across all ages.
Qualifications:
- NBSTSA Certification or a minimum of 10 years of experience as a Surgical Technologist.
- At least 2 years of recent experience specifically in a cardiac operating room environment.
- Proficient in scrubbing and circulating during surgical procedures.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association.
