Job Description

A healthcare position is available in an operating room setting located in Murphysboro, IL. This contract role supports surgical procedures by preparing the patient and operating room, assisting the surgeon, and managing surgical instruments and supplies. The schedule includes four days per week from 8:00 AM to 6:30 PM, with a rotating day off during the week, one weeknight, and two weekend call days per month.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in patient transportation and positioning within the OR
  • Prepare surgical tables, instruments, and sterile supplies before and after procedures
  • Perform skin preparation and draping to ready patients for surgery
  • Assist surgeon with gowning, gloving, and passing instruments and sutures
  • Track and maintain proper counts of instruments, sponges, and sutures
  • Apply dressings and bandages post-procedure as needed
  • Identify, collect, and properly care for surgical specimens
  • Decontaminate and properly handle instruments and equipment per protocols
  • Support efficient room turnover for subsequent cases
  • Monitor and restock supplies to ensure readiness

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Nurse or Operating Room Technician training preferred; military or on-the-job training accepted with proof
  • Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) credential strongly preferred
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required
  • Minimum six months of specialized experience or training in an OR setting
