Job Description

A surgical first assistant role is available for a qualified professional with experience in the operating room. This position is a contract assignment based in Deland, FL, requiring expertise across multiple surgical specialties including orthopedic, neuro, general surgery, robotic procedures, urology, and gynecology. The ideal candidate will have at least one year of relevant experience and possess BLS and NBSTSA-CSFA certifications.

Key Qualifications:

  • Minimum 1 year of surgical assisting experience in the OR
  • Certifications: BLS, NBSTSA-CSFA
  • Proficient in orthopedic, neuro, general surgery, robotic, urology, and gynecology procedures
  • Ability to work flexible shifts including weekends, holidays, and varied call schedules
  • Willingness to float to nearby facilities as needed

Job Responsibilities:

  • Assist surgeons during operations by handling instruments, tissue, and ensuring optimal procedural flow
  • Maintain sterile environment and adhere to hospital safety protocols
  • Support preoperative and postoperative patient care within the surgical context
  • Participate in on-call rotations covering weekdays, weekends, and holidays with minimum call day requirements

Schedule:

  • 36 hours per week
  • 12-hour day shifts
  • Rotating on-call and weekend duties (minimum 8 weekday call days and 1 weekend call day monthly)
