A surgical technologist position is available on a contract basis in Carbondale, IL, offering an opportunity to contribute to patient care within an acclaimed healthcare system known for excellence in specialties such as cancer and cardiac services. This role supports surgical procedures by preparing patients and operating rooms, assisting surgeons, and ensuring efficient room turnover for subsequent cases.

Responsibilities include:

• Assisting in patient transportation and positioning
• Assembling and dismantling tables and instruments surrounding procedures
• Preparing patients and rooms for surgeries
• Opening sterile supplies and setting up for operations
• Completing skin preparation and draping
• Assisting surgeons with gowning, gloving, and by passing instruments and sutures
• Maintaining accurate counts of instruments, sponges, and sutures during procedures
• Applying dressings and bandages as needed
• Identifying, collecting, and caring for specimens
• Decontaminating instruments, supplies, and equipment per policy
• Aiding efficient operating room turnover and restocking supplies

Qualifications and experience sought:

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Graduate of an OR technician program accredited through ARC/STSA, or equivalent military experience or on-the-job training recognized by appropriate authorities
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
• At least six months of technical experience or specialized training in surgical technology
• Certified Surgical Technologist credentials preferred but not mandatory (NBSTSA or NCCT certification)

Schedule: Typically 8:00 AM to 6:30 PM, four days weekly, with rotating days off, plus one weeknight and two weekend call days monthly.
