Job Description
An experienced surgical technologist with a strong background in trauma and specialty surgical cases is needed for evening shifts in a Downtown Adult Operating Room. This contract position requires a minimum of three years of recent experience in a Level 1 or Level 2 trauma center or a similar acute care teaching hospital. Experienced professionals comfortable working a combination of 8-hour and 12-hour shifts will find this role rewarding and challenging.
Qualifications:
- Certified Surgical Technologist credential required.
- At least 3 years of recent experience in an acute care setting at a Level 1 or Level 2 trauma center or teaching hospital within the last 4 years.
- Demonstrated scrub experience in general surgery and specialty areas such as orthopedic, neurosurgery, trauma, vascular, ENT, bariatric, genitourinary, and gynecology.
- Previous exposure to trauma, orthopedic, general, ENT, vascular, and GYN surgical cases.
- Compliance with professional licensing and certification standards; no history of suspension or investigation.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently with minimal orientation and supervision.
- First Assist is not permitted for this position under New York State regulations.
- New travel candidates must have experience in hospitals of equivalent size and complexity.
Schedule:
- Mix of shifts including 4 eight-hour and 4 twelve-hour shifts.
- Shift hours may start at 07:00, 11:00, 15:00, or 19:00 with varying end times.
Responsibilities:
- Assist surgical teams in preparing, maintaining, and cleaning the operating room.
- Provide sterile instrumentation and supplies during surgeries.
- Adapt to various surgical specialties while maintaining the highest standards of aseptic technique.
- Support trauma and specialty cases efficiently and safely.
