A skilled CVOR Surgical Assistant is needed to support complex cardiovascular and thoracic surgeries in a dynamic Level III Trauma Center with Magnet designation and a Comprehensive Stroke Center. This contract position is based in Waukesha, WI, with cases taking place in a state-of-the-art operating environment supporting 8 CVOR beds.

Key Responsibilities:

• Circulate in cardiovascular operating rooms during procedures such as CABG, TAVR, valve replacements, robotic thoracic surgeries (lobectomy, hernia repair), generator exchanges, lead extractions, heart transplants, and fem-pop bypass.
• Provide surgical assistance with minimal supervision, ensuring strict adherence to safety and clinical standards.
• Collaborate with a surgical team consisting of two RNs per case (circulator and medication RN).
• Maintain accurate documentation related to patient pain levels in compliance with medication orders.
• Utilize EPIC electronic medical records system and operate equipment including Alaris infusion pumps, Pyxis medication systems, and Da Vinci XI robotic surgical technology.
• Participate in orientation and ongoing team coordination supported by dedicated department supervisors, anesthesia staff, and surgical leads.
• Adhere to fatigue policies limiting consecutive hours and shifts, and participate in rotating weekend and holiday on-call schedules.

Qualifications & Desired Experience:

• Graduation from an accredited surgical assisting program (required).
• BLS certification (required); CSFA credential preferred.
• Minimum of 2 years surgical assisting experience within CVOR or similar specialty areas.
• Proven ability to perform independently in a fast-paced environment.
• Experience working in thoracic and cardiovascular surgical cases outlined above.
• Familiarity with EPIC charting system.
• Ability to adhere to strict protocols and work collaboratively.

Scheduling & Work Environment:

• Typical start times between 5:30 AM and 6:30 AM.
• Weekend on-call approximately once per month with 24-hour coverage required.
• Up to seven days off with prior approval; holiday coverage on call only.
• No floating required; dedicated to CVOR.
• Two-week orientation provided.
• Free staff parking; on-site cafeteria and Starbucks for convenience.
