Job Description

Experienced CVOR/Surgical Assistants with a strong background in cardiovascular and thoracic procedures are needed for a contract opportunity in New Berlin, WI. This role demands proficiency in a fast-paced, high-acuity environment supporting complex surgeries in a Level III Trauma Center with Magnet designation and a comprehensive stroke program.

Responsibilities:

  • Independently circulate during cases including CABG, TAVR, valve replacements, robotic thoracic surgeries (lobectomy, hernia repair), generator exchanges, lead extractions, heart transplants, and fem-pop bypass.
  • Collaborate with surgical teams consisting of two registered nurses per procedure.
  • Document patient pain levels accurately before and after administering medication, ensuring orders align with pain scores.
  • Utilize EPIC for charting and work with equipment such as Alaris, Pyxis, and DaVinci XI robotic systems.
  • Adhere to hospital fatigue policy limiting hours to maintain patient safety and personal well-being.
  • Participate in monthly weekend 24-hour on-call shifts and be responsive within 30 minutes as needed.
  • Complete a two-week orientation period.

Qualifications/Desired Experience:

  • Graduation from an accredited surgical assistant school; CSFA certification preferred.
  • Current BLS certification.
  • Minimum two years of surgical assist experience in cardiovascular operating rooms.
  • Comfortable working autonomously with minimal supervision.
  • Proficient with EPIC electronic medical records system.
  • Ability to work start times between 5:30-6:30 AM and participate in limited weekend/on-call rotations.
