Job Description

A critical role is open for an experienced CVOR Surgical Assistant with expertise in cardiovascular and thoracic surgeries. This contract opportunity is based in Brookfield, WI, at a distinguished Level III Trauma Center known for its Magnet designation and Comprehensive Stroke Center status. The surgical environment is high-paced, handling an average of 10 cases per day in an 8-room CVOR setting.

The ideal candidate will bring at least two years of surgical assist experience in complex cases such as CABG, TAVR, valve replacements, robotic thoracic surgeries (lobectomy, hernia repair), generator exchanges, lead extractions, heart transplants, and fem-pop bypass procedures. Candidates must be confident working independently with minimal guidance and possess strong CVOR technical skills across these specialties. Current BLS certification and graduation from an accredited program are required; CSFA certification is preferred. Familiarity with EPIC charting is mandatory.

Work Schedule & On-Call Requirements:

  • Start times between 5:30 AM and 6:30 AM
  • Weekend on-call rotation once per month (24 hours, Saturday/Sunday)
  • End-of-shift call up to once per week with a 30-minute response time
  • Holiday on-call as needed
  • Adherence to a fatigue policy limiting weekly hours to 60 and no more than five consecutive 12-hour shifts

Clinical Support & Work Environment:

  • Teams consistently include two RNs per casea circulator and medication RN; travelers will function as circulators
  • Access to anesthesia support 24/7
  • Department supervisors, surgical leads, and managers available
  • Utilizes advanced equipment, including DaVinci XI robotic systems, Alaris pumps, and Pyxis medication cabinets
  • Free parking, on-site cafeteria, and Starbucks available for staff convenience

This role is not recommended for first-time travelers due to the specialized nature of the case load and fast-paced environment. A two-week orientation will be provided.
