What is a Surgical Technician?

Surgical technologists play an indispensable role before, during and after surgical operations. Prior to surgeries, surgical technicians hold the responsibility of setting up and sterilizing the proper instruments and equipment needed for the specific operation. They also prep the patient for surgery by transferring them to the necessary operating table and cleaning incision sites. During the procedure, surgical technicians assist doctors and/or other medical professionals by providing them with the instruments needed to perform the surgery and making sure that these tools are sanitized appropriately. Following the procedure, surgical technicians are often responsible for dressing the incision site, ensuring that the patient is transferred safely and prepping the operation room for upcoming surgeries.
