Job Description
A full-time opportunity is available for a Teacher for the Visually Impaired (TVI) to support K-12 students in the Washington DC area, approximately 45 minutes south of DC. This position involves working directly with a caseload averaging 22 students per teacher, providing specialized instruction and support to visually impaired learners. The contract runs through the current school year, concluding in late May.
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver tailored educational services to students with visual impairments in accordance with Individualized Education Programs (IEPs)
- Collaborate with classroom teachers, families, and specialists to adapt curriculum and materials
- Conduct assessments to monitor student progress and needs
- Utilize assistive technology and specialized instructional strategies
- Maintain up-to-date documentation and compliance with state education regulations
Qualifications and Experience:
- Active Virginia Department of Education teaching certification
- Experience working with students who are visually impaired, preferably within K-12 settings
- Ability to manage a caseload and differentiate instruction effectively
- Completion of or willingness to immediately begin VA Department of Social Services check
- Compliance with VA TB testing requirements
- Strong communication and organizational skills
Location: Washington DC metropolitan area (remote work is not accepted; on-site presence required)
Schedule: Full-time, approximately 37.5 hours per week
