Job Description

A K-12 school in Thibodaux, LA is seeking a dedicated Teacher of the Visually Impaired to provide specialized instruction and support to students with visual impairments. This full-time, contract position offers the opportunity to impact the educational experience of visually impaired students throughout the academic year.

Responsibilities include:

  • Designing and implementing individualized education plans tailored to students unique visual needs.
  • Delivering direct instruction and accommodations that promote student independence and academic success.
  • Collaborating with classroom teachers, administrators, and family members to support students access to the curriculum.
  • Conducting assessments to monitor student progress and adapting instructional strategies accordingly.
  • Providing consultative services to staff regarding visual impairment-related best practices and assistive technology.

Qualifications:

  • Valid Louisiana teaching license in Visual Impairment or equivalent out-of-state license with reciprocity.
  • Experience working with K-12 students who have visual impairments.
  • Strong knowledge of specialized instructional techniques and assistive technology used in the education of visually impaired learners.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills to work effectively with educators, families, and related service providers.
  • Commitment to fostering an inclusive educational environment that empowers students.
