Job Description

An opportunity exists for a dedicated professional specializing in braille instruction and materials production within an elementary school setting in Seattle, WA. Qualifications:

  • Must demonstrate competency with the Unified English Braille code.
  • Successful completion of one of the following:
    • WSSB Braille Competency Test
    • NBPCB Unified English Braille exam
    • Library of Congress certificate in literary braille transcribing
  • Experience in school-based braille instruction and material production is preferred.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with staff, students, and parents.
  • Ability to adapt teaching methods and materials to meet diverse student needs.

Location:

Responsibilities:

  • Provide instruction in braille to students, fostering independent literacy skills.
  • Assess student needs and develop individualized education plans (IEPs) with appropriate braille goals.
  • Produce and adapt braille materials for classroom use, ensuring accessibility.
  • Collaborate with teachers, specialists, and families to support student learning.
  • Maintain accurate records of student progress and IEP documentation.
