Job Description

In an educational environment dedicated to fostering inclusive learning experiences, a skilled professional is sought to provide specialized braille instruction and material production for elementary students. This contract position is based in Olympia, WA, and spans the school year, encompassing 31.5 hours per week from September 3, 2025, to June 23, 2026.

Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated competency with the Unified English Braille (UEB) code
  • Successful completion of one of the following:
    • WSSB Braille Competency Test
    • NBPCB Unified English Braille exam
    • Library of Congress certificate in literary braille transcribing
  • Experience in school-based braille instruction
  • Ability to produce braille materials tailored to student needs
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills

Responsibilities:

  • Provide comprehensive braille instruction to students, adapting techniques to meet diverse learning needs
  • Collaborate with educators and support staff to integrate braille literacy into the classroom
  • Assess student progress and adjust instructional strategies accordingly
  • Develop and produce braille materials that support the curriculum
  • Maintain accurate records of student progress and instructional outcomes
  • Participate in IEP meetings and contribute to the development of individualized education plans
