Job Description
An opportunity is available for a Teacher of the Visually Impaired and Orientation and Mobility Specialist to provide essential support within a K-12 school setting in Cambridge, MA. This contract position offers the chance to work with students requiring specialized services for visual impairments throughout the school year.
Responsibilities include delivering approximately one hour of direct services per week, supplemented by indirect time for planning and consultation. The role involves assessment, consultation, and direct instruction aimed at supporting students' educational and mobility needs. Services are split roughly evenly between teaching visually impaired students and providing orientation and mobility training.
Key qualifications and skills:
- Certified Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI)
- Orientation and Mobility Specialist (OMS) credentials
- Experience working with K-12 students with visual impairments
- Ability to conduct assessments and develop individualized education plans
- Strong collaboration skills for consultation with educators, families, and support staff
This position is contracted for the current school year, allowing for focused specialization in supporting visually impaired students educational outcomes.
