Embark on a rewarding contract opportunity making a meaningful difference in the lives of students with visual impairments. Located near Bremerton, WA, this full-time position offers a chance to work as a dedicated Braillist within one elementary school, supporting students in accessing educational content through braille and other accessible formats.

As a valued member of the educational team, the Braillist will:

Key Qualifications:

• Successfully completed the ParaPro Test, or hold an associates or bachelors degree.
• Demonstrated proficiency in Unified English Braille (UEB) within one year of employment, verified by:
  • Passing the Braille competency test offered by the Washington State School for the Blind,
  • National Certification in Unified English Braille (NBPCB),
  • Or a Library of Congress Certificate in Literary Braille Transcribing.

Responsibilities:

• Transcribe educational materials into braille, tactile graphics, and accessible formats tailored to students needs.
• Collaborate closely with Teachers for the Visually Impaired to ensure all students have equitable access to the general curriculum.
• Provide support with the preparation and adaptation of instructional materials.
• Maintain confidentiality and adhere to district policies regarding student records and educational standards.

This contract role follows the academic calendar, with 37.5 hours per week, Monday through Friday during student in-person days (8:30am-4:00pm).
