Desired Skills and Qualifications:

  • Valid certification as a Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI) and/or Orientation and Mobility Specialist (OMS)
  • Experience creating accessible lesson plans, instructional materials, and IEP goals for visually impaired or blind students
  • Strong understanding of assistive technology and Braille instruction
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams, including classroom teachers, families, and ancillary staff
  • Excellent communication skills and adaptability in varied classroom settings

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide specialized instruction and adaptation of curriculum for students with visual impairments across grade levels
  • Conduct functional vision assessments and orientation and mobility evaluations to determine student needs
  • Design and implement individualized educational plans targeting academic, social, and functional independence
  • Teach orientation and mobility skills, including safe navigation of campus and community environments
  • Consult regularly with teachers, staff, and families to maximize student support and success
  • Maintain accurate student progress reports and contribute to IEP meetings
