Job Description

An opportunity exists for a dedicated Teacher of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing to make a significant impact in the lives of K-12 students. This full-semester contract position is located in Chicago, IL, and involves working as an itinerant teacher across 3-4 schools, focusing on providing tailored educational experiences to students with varying needs.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree in Deaf Education, Special Education, or a related field.
  • Valid teaching certification in Deaf/Hard of Hearing.
  • Experience working in K-12 educational settings, preferably in an itinerant role.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with diverse teams and adapt to different school environments.
  • Proficient in American Sign Language (ASL) and other communication modalities.

Location:

Chicago, IL, serving multiple schools within a moderate travel distance.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) for students who are deaf or hard of hearing.
  • Collaborate with classroom teachers and support staff to facilitate effective communication and support.
  • Provide direct instruction and support to students, ensuring access to the curriculum.
  • Monitor student progress and adjust teaching strategies to meet individual needs.
  • Engage with families to promote understanding and involvement in their childs education.
  • Maintain accurate records of student performance and progress.
