Job Description

Seeking a dedicated professional to fill the role of Teacher of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing in an itinerant position across various schools. This full-semester contract offers the opportunity to make a significant impact on the lives of K-12 students with hearing impairments.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree in Deaf Education, Special Education, or related field.
  • Illinois teaching certification in Deaf and Hard of Hearing.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with diverse teams.
  • Experience working with K-12 students preferred.
  • Knowledge of individualized education plans (IEPs) and best practices in special education.

Location:

  • Chicago Heights, IL
  • Itinerant position serving 3-4 schools, with a moderate travel distance of approximately 10 minutes from the SPEED campus.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement tailored educational programs to meet the diverse needs of students with hearing impairments.
  • Collaborate with related service staff and general education teachers to ensure comprehensive support for students.
  • Conduct assessments and monitor student progress to inform instructional practices and IEP goals.
  • Provide consultation and training to staff and families on deafness and appropriate interventions.
  • Maintain accurate records of student progress and educational activities in compliance with district policies.
