Job Description

A full-time High School Transition Special Education Teacher position is available for the current school year at a high school located in Waukegan, IL. This contract role offers an opportunity to make a meaningful impact on students lives by supporting their educational and transitional goals.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement individualized education programs (IEPs) tailored to the unique needs of high school students with disabilities
  • Facilitate transition planning to prepare students for post-secondary education, employment, and independent living
  • Collaborate with families, administrators, and related service providers to ensure comprehensive support
  • Adapt instructional strategies to promote student engagement and success in both academic and life skills
  • Monitor, assess, and document student progress toward IEP goals and transition milestones

Desired Qualifications:

  • Valid Special Education teaching certification
  • Experience working with high school students requiring special education services, preferably in transition planning
  • Strong understanding of transition laws, policies, and vocational rehabilitation resources
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills with students, families, and multidisciplinary teams
  • Ability to create inclusive, supportive learning environments that foster student independence and self-advocacy
