Job Description

A Special Education Teacher is needed to support a center-based behavior program focused on students requiring intensive behavioral support and assistance with reintegration into general education settings. This role is based in a middle school environment in Saint Francis, MN, serving primarily grades 2 through 5, with occasional students from kindergarten to grade 5.

The position involves managing a caseload of approximately 10 students with diverse disabilities, including Emotional/Behavioral Disorders (EBD), Other Health Disabilities (OHD), Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), and Blind/Visually Impaired (BVI). The program operates with a high staff-to-student ratio, supported by seven educational assistants, ensuring personalized attention and support for students. Most students spend part of their day transitioning back to mainstream classrooms, with about four students remaining in the center-based classroom for the majority of the day.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Developing and implementing individualized education plans (IEPs) tailored to students' behavioral and educational needs
  • Providing direct instruction and behavioral interventions in a center-based classroom setting
  • Collaborating with educational assistants and other staff to support student reintegration into general education
  • Monitoring student progress and adjusting strategies to meet evolving needs
  • Communicating effectively with families, staff, and administration regarding student development and program goals

Qualifications:

  • Bachelors or Masters degree in Special Education
  • Valid Minnesota State Licensure in Special Education
  • Experience working with students with behavioral challenges and diverse disabilities preferred
  • Strong collaboration and communication skills
