Job Description

This full-time Special Service Director position offers an opportunity to lead and innovate in the delivery of Special Education, 504, and Gifted and Talented programs within a K-12 school setting serving approximately 110 students. The role is a contract for the next school year located in Orono, ME, and requires a dedicated professional with substantial leadership experience and a commitment to promoting student achievement and equity.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee all aspects of Special Education, Section 504, and Gifted and Talented programming district-wide.
  • Ensure compliance with IDEA, Section 504, and Chapter 104 regulations.
  • Lead assessment processes for student identification, annual reviews, and triennial evaluations.
  • Supervise behavior and life skills programs while supporting instructional improvement.
  • Develop and maintain respectful professional relationships with students, staff, and community stakeholders.
  • Utilize data-driven decision-making and technology to enhance instructional practices and program management.
  • Collaborate effectively with the leadership team to foster a supportive and high-achieving educational environment.

Qualifications:

  • Current Maine certification as an Administrator of Special Education (030) is required.
  • Masters degree in special education, educational leadership, administration, or a closely related field.
  • Proven success in leadership roles as a Director of Special Education.
  • In-depth knowledge of IDEA, Section 504, Chapter 104, and assessment tools.
  • Experience with evaluation practices and a track record in supporting instructional improvement.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to inspire trust and confidence.
