Job Description

Located in Old Town, ME, this full-time Special Service Director role is a pivotal leadership position within a K-12 school serving approximately 110 students. This contract runs through the next school year (NSY) and offers an opportunity to oversee comprehensive Special Education, 504, and Gifted and Talented (GT) programming.

Responsibilities include:

  • Leading and managing all aspects of IDEA, Section 504, and GT programs to ensure compliance and effectiveness
  • Directing evaluations including assessments for initial identification, annual reviews, and triennial reviews
  • Overseeing Behavior and Life Skills programs to support diverse student needs
  • Developing and maintaining productive, respectful professional relationships with students, staff, families, and community stakeholders
  • Utilizing data-driven decision-making to support instructional improvement and student achievement
  • Collaborating as an integral member of the leadership team to advance school goals and initiatives
  • Promoting the use of technology for instructional and data analysis purposes
  • Inspiring trust, confidence, and high levels of achievement among students and staff

Qualifications:

  • Current Maine certification as an Administrator of Special Education (030) is required
  • Masters degree in special education, educational leadership, administration, or a related field
  • Proven leadership experience as a Director of Special Education with strong familiarity of IDEA, Section 504, and Chapter 104 regulations
  • Experience in evaluation practices and supporting instructional improvement
  • Ability to lead Behavior and Life Skills programs
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to build collaborative relationships with various stakeholders
