Bring your passion and expertise to support elementary students with unique learning needs in a full-time, contract role as a Special Education Teacher. This rewarding assignment spans from November 17, 2025, through May 22, 2026, working onsite at elementary schools serving the Sumter region.
Youll provide tailored instruction for students in developmentally delayed and mildly mentally disabled (MIMD) programs, working closely with general education staff and program directors in a collaborative, team-oriented atmosphere. There are two positions available, each focusing on supporting and empowering young learners in specialized classroom settings.
Requirements:
- Active South Carolina Teaching Certificate with multi-categorical endorsement
- Solid experience as a Special Education Teacher in elementary settings
- Proven skills in managing behaviors and de-escalating challenging classroom situations
- Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate with general education staff
- Commitment to maintaining compliance with IEPs, including ED plans
- Willingness to participate in PLCs (Professional Learning Communities) twice weekly
Role Highlights:
- Provide dedicated instruction for K-5 students, primarily in MIMD and related special education classes
- Classroom structure includes support from an existing paraprofessional and regular meetings with program leadership
- Collaborate frequently with general education teachers and participate in ongoing professional development
