Desired Skills & Experience:
- Valid Special Education Teaching certification in Illinois
- Experience or strong interest in K-2 settings, with expertise in life skills or self-contained classrooms
- Knowledge of IEP development, implementation, and ongoing monitoring
- Adaptable teaching strategies to meet diverse student needs
- Strong communication skills for collaborating with families, staff, and administrators
- Compassion, patience, and a commitment to student-centered education
Primary Responsibilities:
- Lead instruction for a K-2 self-contained life skills class, focusing on functional academics and social-emotional development
- Create a safe, structured, and inclusive classroom environment
- Develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs), ensuring compliance with district and state requirements
- Collaborate closely with paraprofessionals and related service providers
- Monitor student progress, adjust instruction, and communicate updates to families
- Support transitions, daily routines, and life skill development for each student
- Participate in staff meetings, parent conferences, and professional development as needed
