Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and student-centered Adapted Curriculum Special Education Teacher to join our team. The ideal candidate is passionate about supporting students with significant cognitive and developmental disabilities by providing individualized instruction aligned with state standards and each student's Individualized Education Program (IEP).
The Adapted Curriculum Special Education Teacher will create an inclusive, structured learning environment that promotes academic growth, communication, social-emotional development, functional life skills, and independence while collaborating with families, related service providers, and multidisciplinary teams.
Responsibilities
Develop and implement standards-based instruction aligned with adapted curriculum requirements.
Create, implement, and monitor Individualized Education Programs (IEPs).
Differentiate instruction to meet students' individual learning needs and abilities.
Collect and maintain accurate data on student progress toward IEP goals.
Collaborate with general education teachers, therapists, administrators, and families.
Utilize evidence-based instructional strategies and behavior management techniques.
Support students in developing communication, social, adaptive, and daily living skills.
Maintain compliance with all federal, state, and district special education regulations.
Participate in IEP meetings, eligibility meetings, and other required school-based meetings.
Foster a positive, safe, and inclusive classroom environment.
Supervise paraprofessionals and provide guidance on instructional and behavioral support strategies as needed.
Qualifications
Required
Bachelor's degree in Special Education or a related field.
Valid state Special Education teaching certification.
Adapted Curriculum endorsement, certification, or eligibility (as required by state).
Experience developing and implementing IEPs.
Strong communication, collaboration, and organizational skills.
Preferred
Experience working with students with moderate to severe disabilities.
Knowledge of augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) systems.
Experience implementing positive behavior supports and functional behavior interventions.
Familiarity with assistive technology and adaptive instructional practices.
