Job Description

A center-based behavior program within a middle school setting is seeking a dedicated Special Education Teacher to support students requiring intensive behavioral interventions and re-integration into general education classrooms. This contract position offers an opportunity to work closely with a small caseload in a supportive, high-staff environment.

Position Overview
The classroom serves primarily 2nd through 5th graders, with flexibility to include kindergarten through 5th grade as needed. The programs focus is on helping students with emotional, behavioral, and other health-related disabilities transition effectively, whether full-time in the center or partially in mainstream settings. Approximately 10 students will be on your caseload, with many reintegrating into general education during the day. Staff support is robust, with seven educational assistants assigned to maintain a high staff-to-student ratio.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver specialized instruction tailored to students with diverse disabilities, including Emotional/Behavioral Disorders, Autism Spectrum Disorder, and visual impairments
  • Collaborate with educational assistants and interdisciplinary teams to implement individualized education plans (IEPs) and behavioral interventions
  • Monitor student progress and adjust instructional strategies to meet individual needs
  • Facilitate reintegration efforts into general education classrooms throughout the school day
  • Maintain thorough documentation and communication with families and staff

Qualifications

  • Bachelors or Masters degree in Special Education
  • Current Minnesota State Special Education licensure
  • Experience with center-based behavior programs preferred
