Step into a rewarding contract opportunity supporting middle school students as a Special Education Teacher for the upcoming academic year. This position offers the unique chance to split your day between two nearby middle schools, facilitating both co-taught and resource classes for 8th grade learners. Your expertise will have a meaningful impact on students who benefit from specialized instruction and tailored support in a focused classroom setting.
Key Qualifications:
- Valid LBSI Special Education teaching certification
- Proven experience teaching or supporting middle school students, particularly in special education settings
- Strong understanding of resource teaching, including adapting curriculum and differentiated instruction for varying abilities
- Ability to collaborate effectively with general education teachers in co-taught classrooms
- Confident operating independently, managing small group instructional sessions (8-10 students per resource class)
- Dedication to fostering an inclusive, supportive learning environment
Responsibilities:
- Deliver engaging, individualized instruction in resource classrooms and as a co-teacher for 8th grade core subjects
- Develop and implement strategies aligned with Individualized Education Programs (IEPs)
- Monitor, document, and report on student progress, adapting support as needed
- Coordinate with fellow educators to ensure cohesive instruction across both school sites
- Participate in professional meetings, parent conferences, and collaborative planning
- Maintain regular communication with all stakeholders to promote student success
This contract is structured for 35 hours each week, aligning with the staff schedule: 7:20-2:50 (Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday) and 7:20-3:05 (Wednesday), plus a 30-minute daily lunch break. The assignment begins August 17, 2026, with optional new teacher orientation from August 5-11 for those able to start early, and concludes May 28, 2027.
