Make a meaningful impact supporting student success as a Sign Language Interpreter in a dynamic school setting close to Williamsburg, VA. This full-time, onsite contract opportunity runs through the entire 2026-2027 academic year, offering the chance to make a lasting difference in the educational journey of one dedicated student.
In this role, you will provide direct educational and communication support, following the student throughout the school day. Your skills in American Sign Language (ASL) will enable access to curriculum, boost classroom engagement, and encourage academic growth. Work collaboratively with teachers and staff to facilitate communication and foster an inclusive learning environment.
Key Qualifications:
- Valid Virginia Quality Assurance Screening (VQAS) Level III, OR
- Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment (EIPA) score of 3.5 or higher with passing written test, OR
- Nationally recognized certification (NIC or similar)
- Proficiency in ASL and a strong understanding of deaf culture
- Previous experience supporting students in a classroom setting is a plus
- Professionalism, adaptability, and a commitment to student progress
Role Responsibilities:
- Interpret all classroom and school-related communications for one student
- Support curriculum access and understanding using ASL
- Work Monday to Friday, 37.5 hours per week, tracking with the full school year calendar
- Collaborate with educators to ensure seamless support
- Adjust interpreting strategies to meet evolving student needs
