Step into a rewarding contract opportunity as a Sign Language Interpreter supporting a high school student through the upcoming school year. This part-time position near Sugar Land, TX is ideal for professionals passionate about fostering access and inclusion in educational settings.
Youll be working exclusively on Fridays during instructional hours, collaborating closely with another language facilitator who covers the remainder of the week. Your skills will directly support a 9th-grade student in a behavioral classsomeone transitioning back from a Residential Day School Program and using Cochlear implants, hearing aids, and an ALD device. Your proficiency in American Sign Language will help bridge important communication gaps, ensuring the student thrives academically and socially.
Key Qualifications:
- Demonstrated proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) and experience interpreting in school environments
- Certification or proof of licensure as a Sign Language Interpreter
- Experience facilitating communication for students with hearing devices (Cochlear implants, hearing aids, ALDs) preferred
- Flexibility to work part-time, specifically Fridays, with the potential to substitute on other weekdays as needed
- Ability to work onsite and engage with students and staff
- Strong interpersonal skills and a commitment to student-centered support
Primary Responsibilities:
- Provide ASL interpretation during instructional periods (excluding lunch, arrival, and dismissal) for one high school student
- Collaborate with educational staff and another language facilitator to ensure seamless support
- Adapt communication to meet the evolving needs of the student within a behavioral classroom setting
- Maintain professionalism, confidentiality, and contribute to a positive school environment
