Job Description

A dynamic opportunity exists for a skilled professional specializing in Sign Language Interpretation within a K-12 educational setting. This position is located in Saline, MI, for the duration of the school year and is designed for individuals who are passionate about facilitating communication for students who are deaf or hard of hearing.

Qualifications:

  • Score of 4.0 or higher and licensed as a MI interpreter through LARA
  • Candidates with an EIPA score of 3.5-3.9 that tested and received their EIPA score in the last 24 months and completed CEUs will be considered as well
  • Proficient in American Sign Language (ASL) and other relevant sign languages
  • Previous experience interpreting in educational settings, particularly with K-12 students
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills to collaborate effectively with staff and students
  • Ability to adapt interpretation styles to meet diverse student needs

Responsibilities:

  • Provide sign language interpreting services for students, ensuring full access to the educational curriculum
  • Collaborate with teachers and support staff to facilitate effective communication and support student engagement
  • Attend staff meetings and participate in professional development opportunities as required
  • Maintain appropriate documentation of interpreting services and student progress
  • Adapt interpretation techniques to support various educational contexts and subjects
