Job Description

Support elementary students as an on-site Sign Language Interpreter in a contract role located in the greater Owens Cross Roads area. This assignment focuses on providing dedicated 1:1 assistance to students within an engaging educational setting. Your expertise in sign language interpreting will allow you to bridge communication and foster inclusion within the classroom. You will work closely within the school community, ensuring every interaction between student, peers, and staff is meaningful and supportive.

Qualifications & Desired Experience:

  • Current certification as a Sign Language Interpreter (SLI) required
  • Experience in educational settings preferred, particularly at the elementary level
  • Strong understanding of Deaf culture and interpreting ethics
  • Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL)
  • Comfort working 1:1 with young learners
  • Reliability and professionalism in an on-site capacity

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver 1:1 interpreting services for an elementary-aged student during the school day
  • Facilitate classroom and social communication to support learning goals
  • Collaborate with teachers, staff, and special education professionals to ensure student engagement
  • Maintain confidentiality and adhere to all school and professional guidelines
  • Adjust interpreting strategies as needed to address student needs

This position is on-site only (no remote work) and offers a regular weekday schedule of 37.5 hours per week, providing consistency and a true classroom experience.
