Job Description

A full-time Sign Language Interpreter position is available at an elementary school in Olympia, WA, serving kindergarten students. This contract role is scheduled from ASAP through June 10, 2026, with onsite work required for 6.5 hours per day (32.5 hours per week).

Responsibilities include:

  • Providing clear and effective sign language interpretation services to support communication between students, staff, and families
  • Facilitating full participation of Deaf and hard-of-hearing students in classroom activities
  • Collaborating closely with teachers and support staff to ensure appropriate accommodations are met
  • Maintaining confidentiality and professional standards in compliance with educational policies

Qualifications:

  • Valid state licensure in Sign Language Interpretation with one of the following required:
    • EIPA Performance Score of 4.0 and the EIPA Written Test, or
    • RID certification and the EIPA Written Test
  • Experience interpreting in educational settings preferred, especially with young children
  • Strong understanding of elementary education environments and communication needs of Deaf and hard-of-hearing students
