Job Description

A full-time ASL Interpreter is needed to provide high-quality interpretation services for K-12 students in a vibrant school setting in Oakland, CA. This contract position runs from August 6, 2025, through June 5, 2026, and requires onsite work during regular school hours. The role supports diverse learners across all grade levels, facilitating effective communication and access to education.

Responsibilities:

  • Deliver accurate and culturally appropriate sign language interpretation for K-12 students, staff, and parents.
  • Collaborate with teachers, counselors, and educational teams to support student inclusion.
  • Maintain confidentiality and professionalism in all interactions.
  • Participate in ongoing professional development and mentorship programs.
  • Uphold standards consistent with recognized certifications and assessments.

Qualifications:

  • EIPA score of 4.0 or higher, or
  • RID membership from 2008 onward, or
  • Successful completion of the Educational Sign Skills EvaluationInterpreter and Receptive (ESSE-I/R), or
  • Passing assessment by the National Association of the Deaf/American Consortium of Certified Interpreters (NAD/ACCI).
  • Must fulfill qualification requirements despite no state licensure being required.
