Make a meaningful impact each day by supporting a student who is deaf or hard of hearing in the classroom with your sign language interpretation expertise. This full-time, onsite contract role is located near Norfolk, VA, and spans the entirety of the 2026-2027 school year, from August through June. You'll play a crucial part in ensuring access to curriculum and communication, following the student through their daily activities and serving as their advocate and language bridge.

Qualifications:

• Hold a valid Virginia Quality Assurance Screening (VQAS) Level III
• Or an Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment (EIPA) score of 3.5 or higher with a passing written test
• Or a recognized national certification such as the NIC
• Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL)
• Prior experience in an educational setting or with student support is preferred
• Strong interpersonal skills, professionalism, and adaptability within a dynamic classroom environment

Key Responsibilities:

• Provide real-time ASL interpretation for one student throughout their school day
• Support effective communication between the student, teachers, and peers
• Facilitate access to classroom instruction, activities, and materials
• Collaborate with educational staff to implement learning accommodations
• Monitor student progress and adapt interpretation style as needed
• Maintain confidentiality and adhere to ethical interpreting practices
