Job Description

A full-time opportunity is available for a skilled Sign Language Interpreter to support K-12 students in a school setting located in Kenner, Louisiana. This contract position runs from the start date ASAP through May 22, 2026, following the school calendar. The role offers 35 hours per week, typically 7 hours per day with a 30-minute unpaid lunch, Monday through Friday.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide accurate and effective American Sign Language (ASL) interpretation to facilitate communication between students, teachers, and staff.
  • Support instruction and participation for deaf or hard-of-hearing students across assigned K-12 grade levels.
  • Collaborate with educators and school personnel to ensure a fully inclusive learning environment.
  • Maintain confidentiality and adhere to all district policies and standards.
  • Complete required screenings and comply with all district credentialing requirements, including drug screening and fingerprinting.

Qualifications:

  • Active Louisiana Department of Education (DOE) Certification in Sign Language Interpretation is mandatory.
  • Proven expertise in ASL interpreting within educational settings, preferably K-12.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively with diverse student populations.
  • Compliance with all time-sensitive credentialing procedures as outlined by the school district.
