Job Description

A full-time Sign Language Interpreter position is available in Glenview, IL, supporting an elementary school student who is deaf with additional visual impairment. This role is ideal for a professional passionate about providing 1:1 support to young learners new to American Sign Language (ASL), ensuring effective communication and inclusion within the educational environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide clear, accurate, and timely sign language interpretation services for a deaf student with visual impairment
  • Facilitate communication between student, teachers, and peers to support educational and social integration
  • Collaborate with educators and support staff to adapt communication strategies as needed
  • Maintain confidentiality and uphold ethical standards in all interactions

Qualifications:

  • Certified Sign Language Interpreter (SLI) with Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment (EIPA) credentials
  • Experience working with children new to ASL preferred
  • Ability to interpret in educational settings, especially classrooms for young learners
  • Sensitivity to the unique needs of students with dual sensory impairments

Work Details:

  • Full-time hours, 5 days per week
  • Contract duration: Current School Year (CSY)
  • Caseload: Exclusive 1:1 support for one student
