Job Description

A fantastic opportunity is available for a skilled Sign Language Interpreter to provide vital 1:1 American Sign Language (ASL) support to a PreK student during the upcoming school year. This contract role is based onsite and will have you working full time at a single school location near Galveston, IN. Youll play an essential part in helping a young student acclimate to a new school environment, offering continuous ASL interpretation and support throughout their classrooms and school day.

Qualifications:

  • Valid Sign Language Interpreter Certification
  • EIPA score of at least 3.5
  • Experience supporting students in educational settings is highly desirable
  • Strong understanding of Deaf culture and ASL best practices
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to collaborate with teaching staff, therapists, and parents

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Provide direct ASL interpretation for a PreK student in the classroom throughout the school day
  • Facilitate communication between the student, classmates, and educational staff
  • Support full participation in classroom activities and school routines
  • Adapt interpreting techniques as needed to meet the students needs
  • Assist in building the students confidence and engagement in their new learning environment
  • Work closely with the educational team to monitor progress and adjust supports if required
