Job Description

A full-time Sign Language Interpreter opportunity is available at a high school located in Elkin, NC. This position involves providing 1:1 interpreting services to high school students, ensuring clear and effective communication in the classroom and throughout the school day. The role is onsite and requires dedication to supporting students' educational success through precise and accessible communication.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver 1:1 American Sign Language (ASL) interpretation services for high school students.
  • Facilitate communication between deaf or hard-of-hearing students and their teachers, peers, and staff.
  • Support students in understanding academic content and participating fully in classroom activities.
  • Maintain confidentiality and follow all policies related to student information and professional conduct.
  • Collaborate with educators and support staff to enhance the educational experience for students requiring sign language interpretation services.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) with the ability to interpret in an educational setting.
  • Previous experience as a sign language interpreter, preferably in a school environment.
  • Strong understanding of deaf culture and communication needs of hearing-impaired students.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a school team.
  • Availability to commit to the academic calendar year.
