This opportunity is for a skilled Sign Language Interpreter to provide dedicated support in an elementary school setting located in Des Plaines, IL. The role focuses on working one-on-one with a student who is deaf and has an additional visual impairment, requiring specialized communication techniques and sensitivity to unique learning needs.

Key Responsibilities:

• Interpret American Sign Language (ASL) to facilitate communication between the student and classroom teachers, staff, and peers.
• Adapt interpreting strategies to support a young learner new to ASL.
• Collaborate with educators and support staff to promote student engagement and academic success.
• Ensure accurate and effective communication during all school activities and lessons.
• Maintain confidentiality and uphold all professional standards in a school environment.

Qualifications:

• Certification in Sign Language Interpreting, with demonstrated proficiency.
• EIPA (Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment) certification required.
• Experience interpreting for school-aged children, preferably with visual impairments or additional support needs, is highly desirable.
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to work in a full-time, five-day-per-week schedule.
